New Members
We are actively seeking to increase our membership and welcome
new members. Daunting though it is to join a new club, we do our
best to make you feel comfortable. Feel free to come along on a
Thursday evening to Carisbrooke Primary School, Wellington Road,
Newport, from 7.30 pm to 10 pm.
In 2007 we completely revised our repertoire and we continue to
increase our song list in 2008 - so now is a good time to join,
when everybody will be learning new songs together.
Individual commitment is expected! You will need to develop good
breath control, improve your ensemble vocal techniques, be prepared
to do homework and - it goes without saying - attend rehearsals
regularly. Barbershop is a four part vocal harmony and we sing together,
there are no soloists.
In return we'll provide: Fun! - teach tapes to help you learn -
fun - voice coaching - fun - music - fun - public performances -
and more fun.
New singers are voice tested and given a part suitable for their
voice. Four voice parts are available:
LEAD = singing the melody
TENOR = harmonising above the melody
BASS = lowest harmonising notes
BARITONE = a harmony part to complete the chord.
When you've been with us for about six weeks, we ask you to try
our quartet test so we can assess how you're getting on and offer
guidance if necessary.
If you'd like to consider joining and want to talk it over, please
'phone our membership secretary on 296519 or email
her.
Membership is by subscription - currently £10 per month -
which is payable after four weeks attendance.
